    Non-Skid Socks

Have you noticed that once you get above the 24 month size in socks, you can hardly find socks with non-skid feet? Why notsocksproject.jpg create your own? We think this project is perfect to do with your preschooler and older children.

    What you need:

    Socks

    Puffy paint

Simply stuff the socks with newspaper to make a mold of the foot. Use the paint to make designs on the bottom of the socks. Let the paint dry thoroughly and you've got non-skid socks with your own unique touch! Some design ideas are names, seasonal things like snowflakes or stars, hearts, circles and lines. The possibilities are endless.

    Homemade Molding Clay

    What you'll need:playdough.jpg

    1/2 cup salt

    1/2 cup water

    2 cups flour

    Food coloring

Mix the dry ingredients (flour and salt) in a bowl then add water slowly while stirring.  Mixture will toughen so change to kneading until you reach the right consistency. Add tiny amounts of water if too dry or tiny amounts of flour if too sticky. Separate into several mounds and with GLOVES mix in tiny amounts of food coloring while kneading. Keep in air tight container when not in use.

    Making Gooey Goop

goopactivity.jpgThis activity is great but MESSY so be prepared. Should not be done without adult supervision. We sometimes do this activity in the bath tub* so it's easy to clean up!

    What you will need:

    2 cups water

    3 Tablespoons cold water

    1/2 cup corn starch

    Food coloring

Boil the 2 cups of water. While water is boiling, mix cold water with corn starch to dissolve thoroughly into liquid. Stir in cold mixture to boiling water. The mixture will start to turn into goop, add preferred drops of food coloring and let cool completely before use. Separate into bowls to make several colors. Squishy texture makes for great "finger painting" art!

*WARNING-test tub for food coloring discoloration prior to use.
